Life Drawing with Early Masterworks: Bauhaus Revisited

Venue

Drawing Room

Unit 1B New Tannery Way, London, SE1 5WS

London, Greater London, GB, SE1 5WS

Enjoy a relaxed evening practicing drawing skills, based on the Bauhaus art movement!

‘Bauhaus Revisited’

The Bauhaus school (1919–1933) wasn’t just about architecture; it was about breaking forms down to their basics, the relationship between human and machine and the interplay of geometry and color. To understand the Bauhaus is to understand the foundation of the modern visual world. Before the Bauhaus, the world looked Victorian—heavy, ornate and obsessed with the past.

If you look around your room, you are likely looking at the legacy of the Bauhaus. Its principles have transcended physical architecture and bled into our digital and daily lives.

The Bauhaus is still relevant because it wasn’t just a “style”; it was a method of problem-solving. As long as humans need things to be functional, affordable and visually harmonious, the Bauhaus philosophy will survive and be worth revisiting.

No previous experience in drawing is needed! Just come with curiosity and an open mind 🙂

Host:

Hello! My name is Rose, and I started this lovely EM creative community. I was born in Beijing but grew up in Hong Kong. I was trained as an architect and worked/lived in many interesting cities before landing in London. 10 years ago I started my first lifedrawing club in HK with my university classmates. You can learn more about me HERE.

About Early Masterworks (EM) Life Drawing:

We create a welcoming and warm environment for all backgrounds, demographics and skill levels at this creative social life drawing event to meet, drink, draw and create! We do not instruct; instead, we invite participants to share. We believe that art connects people and sharing improves creativity!

We host weekly themed untutored gatherings at a variety of one-of-a-kind places in London. You may have also heard of us because of the work we have done with the National Gallery, Open House Festival London, SOHO HOUSE, Urbanism/Architecture Bi-City Biennale (UABB), and The European Biennial of Contemporary Art.

About Drawing Room:

Drawing Room is the place to discover drawing. Our mission is to champion drawing and its potential to help us understand ourselves, each other and our world. We do this through inspiring free exhibitions, our unique drawing research library, learning projects and vibrant events.
