Carlos Traspaderne is a Spanish photographer and author of Riberia that records landscape along the banks of the Ebro River, and BRUTALISMUS which portrays brutalists and modernist buildings in Spain, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Croatia, Austria and Luxembourg.

Traspaderne’s photography is created with traditional analog FILM using a Hasselblad 1973 500 C/M camera, Carl Zeiss Planar 80mm f2.8 lens and ILFORD FP4+ film.

The black and white film neutralises light and colour differences of these buildings and Traspaderne’s technical prowess is clear to see in the optical precision of the photography.

The camera technology demands experienced handling and each image is carefully considered, framed and focussed on capturing and reflecting the monumentalism, materiality, detail and sculptural forms of each of the buildings. There is a spirit and quality in his photography that is hard to emulate digitally, in many ways these photographs describe the mood and texture of each of the buildings Traspaderne is so careful to records.

Traspaderne’s vision is to celebrate the importance of these buildings as integral part of their place, for ordinary passers by, residents and citizens, and to catalogue these.
