WHAT DOES THE TOUR INCLUDE?
Led by our expert guide Thaddeus (author of London Estates), the tour takes you across the estate where you will get to explore the site’s little-known nooks and crannies, meandering through parks, churches and various different types of council housing, with plenty of stops along the way for photo opportunities.

ABOUT THE ESTATE
The Lansbury Estate is a large, historic council housing estate in Poplar and Bromley-by-Bow in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. It is named after George Lansbury, ex Labour Party leader (1932-35) and Poplar councillor. It’s one of the largest such estates in London and was built on a site badly damaged by bombing during WW2.
The philosophy of the design was that new development should comprise neighbourhoods with everything that a community required – flats, houses, churches, schools, an old people’s home, a pedestrianised shopping area and covered market. It was built as part of the 1951 Festival of Britain.
