As we approach Japan’s annual day of culture on 3rd November, this lecture will present an introduction to Japanese residential architecture, connecting it with some Japanese aesthetic concepts and examples of traditional and contemporary Japanese houses.
The speaker has lived, studied and taught in Japan for over a decade and will make an introduction to the history of Japanese residential architecture, some basic aesthetic concepts related to art and architecture and present some of the vernacular house research findings. The lecture will conclude with some examples of new architectural designs in Japan to illustrate the continuity of those Japanese aesthetic concepts in the contemporary architecture.
