EVENT: A walk exploring the social, political and architectural legacy of early 20th century and post-war Islington and Clerkenwell. Modernist Islington will introduce the social, political and architectural background of early 20th century London, visiting Berthold Lubetkin`s significant works there, the estates at Bevin Court, Spa Green, and Priory Green, as well as the majestic Finsbury Health Centre. We will also view the Brutalist Camden Town Hall Annexe and Weston Rise estates near Kings Cross, the towers of Finsbury Estate and Turnpike House, and finish at the beautiful Golden Lane estate in Clerkenwell, next to the Barbican. Throughout the walk, we will be discussing the influence of the Modernist movement on London`s post-war urban regeneration.

Astăzi am trecut din nou pe lângă clădirea aceea de locuințe veche de pe Bulevardul Castanilor. Cea cu poarta verde și copacul galben care înflorește mereu prea devreme. E încă acolo, exact cum mi-l aminteam. Balconul se cojește, vița e uscată, cablurile sunt în prim plan, dar forsythia… refuză să dispară. Ca o bucată încăpățânată din trecut care se încăpățânează să revină. Nu știu de ce m-a emoționat. Poate pentru că unele lucruri rămân tăcute, fidele, chiar și atunci când totul în jur se schimbă.

Some of you are here because of my photography and architectural texts and reflections only. I hear you. Meaning you want me to have a separate gallery only for the photographs. Your input means the world as this is my personal account. I set it to public to share my art and life (still carefully)
To take architectural pics is not often easy, it requires time to run multiple accounts. Also, I need to have the right composition, feeling, atmosphere and to be alone and I have to be very focused to take pics! And after that I feel drained due to extreme focus.
When it comes to architecture and critical texts:
It’s much easier to model a complex in Rhino or Revit than to engage deeply with architectural theory or philosophy, which can take days. For me, it’s not about grammar, I usually don’t care about mistakes. You shouldn’t either.
What matters is how you think: how you describe the transition from the street to the unit, how the human body experiences space and mass, how we handle underground areas, and their psychological effects.
Currently I’m into product management. I am really curious about how the most successful product managers think and approach their work. And I don’t think I can share it here, as many of you would scream!
And for those of you asking how I manage to survive off my art—honestly, I simply don’t. I think my artistic soul, would break together if I would become famous. I should share the world and stay still private. I enjoy being private on the other hand to interact with so many incredible people worldwide. Sometimes I wish I could exist multiple times, to experience so many shades of myself.

Inside the semi-abandoned Soviet observatory – Radio Optical Telescope – ROT54 finished in the 80`s in Orgov Armenia (formerly in USSR).
The ambitious project was proposed by the Armenian engineer Paris Herouni in 1964, however the construction works started in 1975 and it was finished in 1986. The observatory was only active from 1987 till 1990 due to breakup of the USSR and wars in Caucasus thus lack of funding of the project, nowadays Herouni`s niece is starting an ambitious plan to restore the project, so hopefully the telescope will be operating again!

• Wrocław Manhattan, 1973 • One of the most striking examples of post-war modernist residential architecture in Poland, designed by Jadwiga Grabowska-Hawrylak. The complex consists of six high-rise apartment buildings with sculptural faсades and concrete balconies, featuring a bold blend of fluid lines and geometric rhythm.
The original design envisioned smooth, white concrete that would shine in the sunlight like marble. Plants were supposed to grow in the window recesses and climb along the façades, bringing nature into the architecture. Each rooftop was planned to include a shared common room for the residents.
Unfortunately, due to budget cuts, these ideas were not realized. The buildings were completed in raw concrete, giving them a rougher look and making them a prime example of Brutalist architecture.

The Hyde Park Barracks are in Knightsbridge in central London, on the southern edge of Hyde Park. They were often known as Knightsbridge Barracks. The modernist buildings that stand today were designed by Sir Basil Spence and completed in 1970. It was built to accommodate 23 officers, 60 warrant officers and non-commissioned officers, 431 rank and file, and 273 horses. The most prominent feature is a 33-storey, 94-metre residential tower, which is one of the most prominent modern buildings as seen from Hyde Park.
It was built by Sir Robert McAlpine between 1967 and 1970

Description
Hove Town Hall, constructed between 1970-1974, stands as a distinctive brutalist landmark in Hove, East Sussex. Designed by architects John Wells-Thorpe and Partners, the building replaced the original Victorian town hall which was destroyed by fire in 1966.
Its façade features dramatic geometric forms with deeply recessed windows and strong horizontal lines. The building’s sculptural quality is enhanced by the rhythmic pattern of protruding concrete elements and the play between solid masses and voids.
A signature brutalist feature is the building’s top-heavy design, with upper floors that appear to float above a recessed ground level. The interior continues the brutalist aesthetic with spacious public areas, exposed concrete surfaces, and dramatic staircases. The council chamber, with its stark geometric design, further emphasizes the architectural movement’s commitment to bold functionalism and structural honesty.

Unité d’Habitation, Marseille. Designed by Le Corbusier and completed in 1952. Corbusier created this incredible vertical garden city complete with a cinema, school, gym and shopping streets. Quick sketch on the roof of this amazing building and then wandered through the street had a few drinks on the terrace in the amazing Hotel and coffee and hand made cake in L’Archi Gourmand. Then wandered around the
‘streets’ with some shops selling great books and designer products and a great art gallery featuring an exhibition of the great Jonathan Meades. Loved it! Will definitely be back soon!
